This Marshmallow Bunny Bait Popcorn is better than all the rest! A sticky, sweet marshmallow coating covers salty popcorn, which is then drizzled with melted chocolate and festive sprinkles. It’s a scrumptious treat that’s sure to go quick!

I love a good snack to munch on in the afternoon, and this bunny bait popcorn is a fun and festive option your family will gobble up!

I like it a little better than traditional bunny bait snack mixes because it’s not too heavy on the white chocolate, but still has enough to give it the right sweetness.

This recipe works because it’s:

  • Easy to make. You might have all of the ingredients in your pantry right now! The skill level for this recipe is beginner so even the kids can help.
  • Versatile. Don’t have candy melts? No problem. Want to use marshmallows instead of the fluff. Great! Make it your own.
  • A big batch. You’ll have plenty to serve at a party, set out for snacks, or give to the neighbors. Just be careful, because one handful and you won’t be able to stop!
  • Pefect for Easter! I love festive treats I can eat with my kids and this popcorn is the perfect snack for holiday.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Place 5 ounces of popped popcorn in a large mixing bowl and set aside.

Combine 3 tablespoons of butter and 7 ounces of marshmallow fluff in a saucepan over medium-low heat.

Stir constantly until well combined (about 3-5 minutes) making sure not to burn the mixture.

Pour the warm marshmallow over the popcorn in batches, mixing well in between to ensure all of the popcorn is evenly coated.

Spread the popcorn out in an even layer on a parchment-lined 10×15 baking sheet.

Sprinkle the popcorn with 1-2 tablespoon of sprinkles.

Melt 1/4 cup of colored candy melts in the microwave according to package directions until smooth. Use a fork to drizzle the melted chocolate over the top of the popcorn. Repeat the process with 2 other colors of candy melts.

Once the chocolate has dried (about 10 minutes), carefully turn the popcorn over (this doesn’t need to be perfect) and melt an additional 1/4 cup of each of the colored candy melts to drizzle on the other side.

When the chocolate has dried the second time, carefully break the popcorn apart and store in an airtight container.

Recipe Tips and Substitutions

To get the marshmallow fluff out easily, get a spoon or spatula wet with water or nonstick cooking spray and then scoop it into the saucepan.

It won’t take long for the marshmallow fluff to melt down, so you’ll want to keep an eye on it or it could burn. You’re not cooking the fluff, just combining it with butter so it spreads easily.

You’ll want to put the sprinkles on when the marshmallow is still wet so it sticks. Otherwise, it will all fall off.

You can use any colored candy melts you like including:

  • Pastel yellow
  • Pastel green
  • Pastel blue
  • Light orange
  • Light purple
  • Light pink

The candy melt directions may vary based on the brand, but I found that it took 2 minutes total at 50% power for 1/4 cup of the melts to melt down. I did it for 1 minute then stirred, then 2-30 second increments.

To keep the colors vibrant, use a different bowl for each of the candy melts.

Can I use Peeps instead of marshmallow fluff in this recipe?


You could definitely try!

The Peeps will definitely color the popcorn, so I would stick with one of the lighter colors like yellow. As long as you use 7 ounces of Peeps and 3 tablespoons of butter, it’s worth a try!

Can I use regular marshmallows instead of fluff?


Yes, but it may take longer for the marshmallows to melt down. You’ll just want to use 7 ounces of whatever size marshmallows you have (about half a 16-ounce bag, etc.).

Can I melt the marshmallow fluff in the microwave?


Yes, but you’ll want to do it in short increments so it doesn’t explode or burn. Add the butter and fluff to a medium microwave-safe bowl and microwave them on high for 15 seconds. Stir the mixture and continue for 15 seconds at a time until the consistency is smooth enough to pour.
