We go to my parents every Thanksgiving and without fail, my mom always makes this dip for us to snack on before we eat our turkey dinner.

When I was a kid, I wouldn’t touch the dip because it had “green things” in it, lol.

Now that my taste has developed, I’m the first one to get a serving of this Swiss cheese dip!

This recipe works because it’s:

  • Simple to make. The dip just needs a few minutes in the oven to bake and the prep work is even shorter.
  • Great for parties. Need an appetizer to tide everyone over until the meal is done? This is the dip for you.
  • Absolutely delicious! One bite of this dip is never enough. You’ll want the whole dish for yourself!

Step-by-Step Instructions

Bowls of Swiss cheese dip ingredients including green onions, cream cheese, and almonds on white table.

PREHEAT your oven to 350 degrees.

TOAST 1/3 cup sliced almonds and set 1 tablespoon aside.

Small roasting pan with several toasted almonds on parchment paper.

SHRED the Swiss cheese until you have 1 1/2 cups and chop the green onions until you have 2 tablespoons.

Piles of shredded Swiss cheese and chopped green onions on wood cutting board surrounded by bowls of ingredients.

IN a medium mixing bowl, combine toasted almonds, 8 ounces of softened cream cheese, the Swiss cheese, green onion, 1/3 cup Miracle Whip, 1/8 teaspoon of nutmeg, and 1/8 teaspoon of pepper.

Recipe Tips and Substitutions

Woman dips cracker in baking dish filled with almond and Swiss cheese dip.

Toasting almonds is a very delicate task. They can go from golden brown to burnt in a matter of seconds! It only takes a few minutes to toast them so it’s best to watch them the entire time. It took about 3 1/2 minutes on low heat to toast mine in the toaster oven. You can also toast them on the stove with a little bit of oil over medium heat. This should take 5 minutes tops.

You can use any sort of dish you want to bake the dip in, but it should be on the smaller side. My dish is a 1 quart baking dish and is the perfect size for hot dips.

To save some calories, you can use low-fat or fat-free cream cheese, or even try one of these cream cheese substitutes.

Any cracker works for this dip, but some of my favorites to serve with it are Wheat Thins, Triscuits, Club Crackers, and Ritz.

FAQs

Woman holds cracker partially covered in cheesy toasted almond spread over baking dish full of the dip.
Can I use mayonnaise instead of Miracle Whip?

Yes!

It’s all a matter of preference. Miracle Whip will give the dip a nice tang, but not many people have it on hand, so mayonnaise works just as well and will still offer a creamy texture.

Do I have to toast the almonds?

No. If you’d prefer not to spend the time toasting (and burning) the almonds, it’s perfectly fine to mix them in as they are.

Toasting them will provide an extra element of flavor but is not necessary.
